Dear Sky:

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your intern at WSPK K-104 Studio. It has provided me with valuable insight and knowledge of the radio industry over the past four months. The experience was more than I could have expected and has afforded me the opportunity to work in a variety of different jobs. Through your guidance, I have had the chance to observe and gain experience in numerous aspects of radio production, from audio mixing, editing, and console operating, to listener interaction and on-air vocal technique. As a result, I have learned to very much appreciate the creative process from the conceptual phase through production to the final product.

The entire WSPK community has been extremely welcoming and helpful, offering me an abundance of valuable information. Your expertise has provided me with the knowledge and experience needed to excel in the field. In addition, you have been most responsive to my questions and always made me feel comfortable. The internship has no doubt greatly increased my interest in pursuing a career in radio and radio production. Once again, thank you for a terrific four months.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Geissler

Artist Statement

The foremost method of connecting to the world and bringing to light human expression is through both sight and sound. Whether the medium is audio or video, it takes a creative blend of technical and artistic skills to properly convey emotion and expression.

Attempting to capture the musicality and intonation of voice requires craftsmanship and mastery. Knowing the extent of my listening audience is a motivating factor, whether I am speaking into the microphone myself, or behind the scenes making it all work cohesively and rhythmically. I appreciate the creative process from the conceptual phase through production to the final product. In an attempt to bring integrity to my work, I am cognizant that the trustworthy presentation of information throughout the communications field is of paramount importance. It is the measure by which I will better serve my community, both personally and professionally.

Video is similar in that it is beauty made visible for all to see. Video production encompasses the visual arts with its corresponding audio component -- the combination of these aspects designed to capture the very essence of sight, feeling, and experience. It is a type of poetry that goes way beyond the accomplishment of filming and editing, and encapsulates the body movements and dynamics between people to artfully tell a story. Its form becomes richer and richer upon each viewing. It takes a shrewd use of Mise en scéne to capture the array of emotions around you. It is heartfelt and the very essence of my being to search for and discover beauty in everything I see, hear, feel, and experience. The goal is capturing what already exists in and of itself, and transforming it into an art form that is aesthetically pleasing. Through an imaginative, lively, and visionary mind, the goal is to bring all these ingredients together to make a delightfully stimulating dish.

Dear ___________:

It is with great interest that I am forwarding my résumé for consideration as production assistant with the station. Having interned as a studio production assistant during college, I have first-hand experience with on-air broadcasts. Combining previous technical experience with strong interpersonal and communication abilities, I am able to interact easily with others and support team objectives. I feel enthusiastic about applying my education and training in an exciting studio environment.

My résumé is enclosed to provide you with details of my skills and accomplishments, but I am certain that a personal interview would more fully reveal my desire and ability to contribute to your organization.
